Biography

Brian Patrick McCann has been a community and political activist for over thirty years and is a third generation Columbus native. He has consistently promoted change from the neighborhood level about issues that concern ordinary people in their every day lives. He has several times served on boards and has led numerous fights against bad policy and bad ideas that harm our neighborhoods.

Brian's experiences run deep and are very diverse. Currently working as a merchandiser and a real estate investor, Brian McCann understands the challenges poor Ohioans face. He was the Director of the non-profit Capital City Transit Coalition that advocated for a progressive plan for public transportation. He has been a commercial realtor dealing with large commercial transactions. He has been a member of the Columbus and Houston Board of Realtors and briefly served on the Government Affairs Committee in both cities. While living in Houston is his early years he was a Neighborhood Planning Commissioner in Houston from 1979-1983. Through these experiences Brian developed a yearning to serve the citizens and dedicate his time to neighborhood issues.

Brian served on the Clintonville Fireworks Committee in 1999 and 2000. He dedicated his service to saving the Clintonville fireworks so families in the community could still celebrate their neighborhood. He is also a board member of the Discovery District Development Corporation. He is a founding trustee and Past-President of the Tri-Village Lions as well as a Past-President of Kiwanis of Gahanna. In 1993, Brian was a founding trustee of the Gahanna Lincoln Key Club.

When the Democratic Party called, Brian Patrick McCann answered. He stepped up and ran for office as an endorsed candidate in 1996, 1997 & 2004. He has tirelessly worked for other Democratic candidates and the Democratic cause at the local, state, and national levels.

On a personal note Brian is a graduate from the Ohio State University. He also attended Universidad Menendez Pelayo in Santander, Spain. He has two wonderful children Noah 25 and Leah 23.
