Jobs and Fresh Air

We've just posted a statement by Brian on the environment. With central Ohio now in non-attainment status for failing to meet US EPA ozone pollution standards, central Ohio will be required to develop a plan by 2007 demonstrating how it will reduce emissions to get back into attainment. This is an economic issue as well as a health issue. The typical ways of reducing ozone will likely increase pressure on central Ohio businesses to move to clearer, cheaper skies just outside the non-attainment zone.

Brian's plans would address both the economic and health issues. If the League of Conservation Voters rating is any indication, his opponent has no plan, except more of the same. Although they once endorsed Hughes, his 2004 rating for votes on the environment is an "F".

Lots of calls

After tonight's events, I am getting Kerry calls from Mobile Ala. and from Portland. I also had two outstanding events with the Asian Business Association and the Worthington Dems. I am beginning to get a "stump" speech down to 2 minutes. More later.

Sunday Mimosas

Todays' event was supposed to be a GLBT fundraiser for the Brian McCann campaign for state rep. Right? The format was a Sunday brunch with appetizers: an excellent garlic hummus, felafels, chips, salsas, and fruits. This was at Steve's house with the bar in the kitchen and the hot tub in the back yard running and ready. Three people attended.

This leaves a campaign or a campaigner with two choices: put the positive spin or tell things as they are. As I understand blogs, this is really a question that predates internet technology. Does a campaign manage news, or create news. Seems to me that one can do either, because it is independent of the technology. So I get to decide.

Today's event was quality. Three excellent neighbors, Phil, Paul, and Bob, made for enjoyable discussion partners. Everyone contributed some money to getting our message out. We had a lovely afternoon. Phil and Paul bonded with Laura about Long Island and Cherry Grove. They laughed and laughed. All Longisland insider stuff as far as I could tell. So we also bonded with Bob. He told Jim Hughes stories and said that the friend and neighbor had morphed into a little George Bush. He was willing to tell that story to his democrat friends. So, we'll run with that.

Laura saved the day. She is the most charismatic person I have ever known. More later.
