Issues:
Crime prevention
Building for the future is more than renewing the
physical infrastructure. Equally important is revitalizing for the
software. School mentoring programs, such as Adopt a School would be
coordinated with meals programs to provide nourishment and improved
performance for targeted neighborhoods. Welfare reform and back-to-work
programs can be coordinated with day care and elder care at the local
level to assist communities in lifting themselves out of urban decay.
One of the first tasks in providing security is to secure the perimeter.
Ohio does not encourage or reward police chiefs who emphasize
neighborhood policing. Ohio does not reward or help police chiefs who
wish to ban assault weapons or to institute comprehensive
crime-reporting systems, such as those in place in New York City. As my
views evolve from listening to you, we can expect changes at the state
level to improve and positively re-connect our communities with the
resources of the State of Ohio.
